More shots from a place I’ve stood before. At the end I scouted another skyline angle across the street I’m going to try sometime too. Downtown Kansas City, Missouri, Thursday, 07/14/11

I took these two telephoto shots the same night as the two wide-angles from my most recent prior posting. I had gone that night to 18th and Jefferson to train the telephoto lens on the Kauffman Center for a scheduled lighting pattern inside the building, but that didn’t go as planned – plus I think if I’m to ever get any decent shots of the building from that location I’m going to have to rent a lens that extends farther than the 400 mm maximum focal length on my own telephoto lens.

Downtown Kansas City skyline on Monday night, June 13…

Continuing where I stopped from this post a few days ago we have downtown KC with storms coming in on the night of May 11th. Visible from left to right are the Crown Plaza Hotel, the One Kansas City Place building, Town Pavillion, Power and Light Building, 1201 Walnut with the Stinson sign, and a sliver of the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts with one of its parking garage cranes.

Part of Downtown Kansas City Missouri.

Last Friday evening during the blizzard recovery I was wanting some skyline shots with the snow. After trudging through the mess that was Liberty Memorial I realized that vantage point would be impossible, so I went near part of the Federal Reserve driveway and went wild with the telephoto. From left to right is the Liberty Memorial, the old Power and Light Building, and the One Kansas City Place building.

KCMO Skyline and LIberty Memorial Grounds

This was one of my three photos I came away with (Saturday’s post being another) from my time over near the Federal Reserve building with my telephoto lens trying to capture both parts of the Liberty Memorial grounds along with the skyline after the snowfall last week. Photo taken Friday, Feb. 4 a little after sunset.

Downtown KC at Sunset, November '10

Photo is from something I was gathering a week or two back in some work detailing the Kauffman Center construction.

Due to someone’s scheduling foul-up the photo show I’ve been posting about is put back to Friday, December 10 instead of this coming Friday. So, don’t come this Friday. (facebook)

Downtown KC Sunset, Nov. 2010

A quick project I’m working on briefly has taken me back to the top of the city hall garage for a couple of recent sunsets. This shot of the old Power and Light Building with the H&R Block Headquarters and the Bartle Hall pylons (technically called Skystations I believe) was something additional I noticed while up there, and thought it would be fun to shoot at the end. Just for laughs I took an iPhone photo of my big camera rigged after I took this one. Because of the very high guard rails on newer garages like the city hall garage, I had to raise the tripod about a foot higher than my head and compose the shot looking up at the live view function on my camera’s LCD.

I took five exposures at one stop apart each bracketed manually for eventual HDR work on the photo to get the evened out colors and tones in the sky.

Here’s that iPhone shot –

Reminder: Photography show at The Hook Gallery in Westport on Friday December 3rd. Here are the Facebook and Yelp listings.

Three Skyscrapers

I took this in June on Broadway west of Union Station while getting sunrise shots of the Kauffman Center construction. Of course, I had I hopes for a fun color photo here, but I haven’t got my hands on a haze filter just yet. So black and white was called for, since I still wanted to do something with this photo. I had invested too much time trying to take it that I wouldn’t let it go.
