Historic Kansas City recently held a walk-through tour of the 19th Century Vine Street Workhouse near 18th & Vine. The abandoned structure was recently purchased by Daniel Edwards, who has been working on cleaning up the property and working to find a new community-based use for the former city jail.

Huge amounts of trash have been removed from the inside of the building. Word has it that if anyone in the surrounding area had forgotten about trash pickup day, it was customary – for about forty years – to just dump one’s trash inside the workhouse instead.

The new website devoted to the repurposing of the Workhouse Castle is at https://www.2ormore.org.
